What is meditation?
It is relaxing into an inner peace that is always available, but often hard to find. Meditation techniques use the 5 senses and also an inner sensitivity to help you get your bearings, train attention, and become ready to let go into that inner silence which offers so much relief. Initially, you can learn to rest in that silence during a formal sitting practice. Eventually, you learn to experience that throughout a busy day.
Most everyone has had a taste of that peacefulness during their lives—even just a moment here or there. As you start to experience meditation, you remember that this is something very familiar to you. It is the most natural, human experience, available to us all. We may have forgotten all about it, but we are hard-wired for it!
As with anything, the more you practice, the more you learn and experience its benefits. This is true for meditation too. Meditation develops slowly and beautifully, exposing deeper states of relaxation bit by bit.
Interestingly, it can also expose where we are stuck, afraid, confused, angry and hurt and provides a gentle way to be with that, move through it, and let it go. If you have been pushing away all sorts of uncomfortable emotions, thoughts and physical sensations, meditation can be transformative in helping you find deep healing and sanity.
